Chien-Ming Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Oh, what a great weekend, though I don't think the Yankees would agree, having left Washington with their tails between their legs.
The Yankees were lucky to escape Washington without being swept by one of the National League's worst teams. Had it not been for Washington screwing up and practically handing Friday night's game to the Yankees, George Steinbrenner may have blown his top seeing his $200 million team swept by a $63 million team - also frequently compared to a modern-day expansion team.
A great moment of the weekend series came Sunday after seeing Gay-Rod supposedly "break out of his slump" by driving a double to the gap giving the Yankees the lead in the eighth inning. Jackass Yankee fans in attendance were loud, smug, and rejoicing in the fact that their team might actually win the series against the third-rate Nationals. That all changed when Ryan Zimmerman stepped up to the plate as the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. He hit what was supposed to be a sinker over the left field wall and the Yankees slumped off the field, wondering where it all went wrong. Sorry boys, today wasn't your day and this isn't your year - you ain't making the playoffs.
As Wang came off the field, practically crying, he slammed down his glove in disgust - something very rare for a pitcher who never shows emotion. Then poor, beaten-down Joe Torre came over and gave him a big hug. Awww....Isn't that sweet? Normally I would feel bad for a pitcher who pitched as well as Wang did only to get the loss on one lousy pitch but then again, this is the Yankees, and hate is the only feeling I got towards those overpaid chumps. I'm sorry Wang - 牵连犯罪 - as I'm sure you are aware, that's "guilt by association" in Chinese.
Perhaps the best moment of Zimmerman's home run on Sunday, even better than seeing Wang in the dumps, was watching Scott Procter's facial expression watching the ball zoom over his head as he stood between warm-up pitches in the Yankees bullpen. It looked as if someone had kicked him in the balls while simultaneously kicking his dog.
Get used to that shellshocked face Yankee fans. With Boston overtaking the lead in the AL East last night, I'm sure we'll be seeing emotions similar to that from Yankee players and fans alike as the season wears on.
